Coachella 2013: Baauer’s Set Highlighted By “Harlem Shake,” Obviously | Music News, Reviews, and Gossip on Idolator.com April 21st, 2013 // Leave a Comment futureshop We get it. Everyone’s tired of Baauer ‘s “Harlem Shake.” The thing had the viral gusto of 1,000 PSY s planking on 1,000 goats screaming like 1,000 humans. But dammit, when the actual, real song was played in person at Coachella’s packed Sahara tent on Saturday afternoon (April 20) and thousands of people flailed in a synchronized blast of chaos, it was a scene. Baauer is by no means the most skilled DJ of the festival, or the one with the biggest bass drops or best curation (love that he spun some 2 Chainz just before the rapper’s set, though), but the young guy gets results, with nary a DJ pyramid or LED mask in sight. Found this track while watching one of my favorite television shows right now, So You Think You Can Dance. This track was used for a group number and the group number was choreographed by none other then the fabulous Mia Michaels. From The “Harlem Shake” To Child Warriors: Baauer, Just Blaze & Jay Z’s Dark “Higher” Visual | Music News, Reviews, and Gossip on Idolator.com August 13th, 2013 // Leave a Comment Baauer unveiled the follow up to zeitgeist-capturing smash “Harlem Shake” last week. “Higher” calle , his electric collaboration with hip-hop producer Just Blaze and music mogul Jay Z , definitely has a spiky edge with its rap-meets-EDM sound palette but the track’s self-proclaimed short film takes things to the next level. Directed by Nabil (the man behind some of Kanye West ‘s best visuals), the violent tale was filmed in India and apparently recreates an obscure martial arts movie. In a nutshell, a Kalaripayattu calle warrior makes the mistake of messing with the wrong kid and pays with his life. It’s extremely well done but seems unnecessarily grim. Considering the three different artists involved in the creation of the massive fucking hit “Higher”, it wouldn’t make sense if Just Blaze , Baauer and Jay Z didn’t do something a little different than a music video. Earlier this week, they premiered an official short film to coincide with the track. The visual fashion shopping follows a young kid observing different characters in the slums and is filled with sword fights. It’s a hell of a lot of fun, so go ahead and push play above.
